The sun is shining, the geese are squawking, and the days are longer! This can only mean one thing – summer is here! It’s time to talk about how to keep your skin looking and feeling great, no matter how hot it gets!

1. SPF

This has to be one of the most important parts of your skincare routine for summer because the sun is more intense and shining longer than any other season! Although you should be wearing SPF all year round, we strongly recommend you invest in an especially good SPF during the summer to prevent sunburn, sun damage, and pre-mature aging. Look into the CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 to protect your skin without breaking the bank.

2. Exfoliate

Exfoliating tends to be more important in the summer, as it aides in getting excess skin cells, dirt, makeup, oils, and sweat off the face so the rest of your skincare products can work better. My favorite for this is the Sonia Roselli sexApeel, because it’s super gentle while leaving you super smooth.

3. Swap your foundation for BB or CC cream

Hot weather brings less desire to wear heavy makeup, and for good reason! Who wants to worry about sweating off their makeup on the beach, playing golf, or eating outside? Swap your favorite foundation out for a lighter BB or CC cream. This will provide less coverage so your sun-kissed skin shines through, while putting less thick product on your skin to prevent pores from clogging. A cult-favorite CC cream is the It Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ because it feels lightweight, while providing good coverage for all ages.

4. Use a mattifying treatment

This is most likely in the form of a makeup primer, which will help your makeup stay on all day, while combating excess oils from breaking through, when sweating is more prevalent. One of my favorites is the Cover FX Mattifying Primer. It doubles as an acne treatment, too!

5. Add an eye cream

If you’ve already done this thanks to the Skincare for Spring post, you’re a step ahead! If you haven’t, make sure to add a moisturizing eye cream to your regimen, as the summer sunshine can be harsh on this most delicate area of the face. I enjoy using the Lancome Rénergie Lift Multi-Action Ultra Eye Cream. It’s anti-aging and super moisturizing.

In summary, stay hydrated, moisturized, and light! And once fall time comes, prepare to transition your skincare by reading our “Skincare for Fall” post!
