The leaves are changing, the air is feeling more crisp, and pumpkin spice lattes are in full rotation! Fall has arrived! It’s time to talk about how you should be transitioning your skincare from summer to fall weather.
1. Switch to a more moisturizing cleanser
Light cleansers are best reserved for the summer weather to keep your skin clean while preventing clogged pores. Once the fall hits, it’s time to use a more moisturizing cleanser to ensure you’re not stripping your skin of necessary oils to keep it from drying out. My favorite hydrating cleanser is the Sonia Roselli Japanese Cleansing Oil. Yes, even for you oily people. The idea behind this method is if you’re adding oil into your routine, your skin won’t over-produce oil to overcompensate. This is also helpful when it starts to get cooler and your skin starts to get naturally drier.
2. Add a thicker moisturizer
During the summer, it’s best to keep your skincare lighter as to not aide in sweat and clogging your pores. However, once fall starts to roll around, it’s time to add a slightly thicker moisturizer to help with the ever-changing temperatures. No need to get the thickest moisturizer around – that’s best reserved for the bitter cold months of winter. My favorite is the Sonia Roselli Water Balm, because it’s lightweight enough to soak into your skin quickly, while being thick enough to give you long-lasting hydration.
3. Invest in a humidifier
While this isn’t specifically skincare, it holds multiple purposes. Not only does a humidifier help with decongesting your nasal passages, it also helps open your pores and keep your skin moist. This is best used when the heat goes on, to ensure the dry air isn’t sucking all the moisture out of the air and your skin! I have really enjoyed the Crane Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier for a few years now. It’s affordable, holds enough water to run all night, and easy to clean.
4. Add a body lotion
The transition from the dead heat of the summer to the crisp air in the fall can leave skin feeling dry and itchy. Start adding a body lotion to your nighttime routine before bed for luscious feeling skin, all day, everyday! I swear by the Lubriderm Daily Moisture Hydrating Unscented Body Lotion ever since I started getting tattoos. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin while being hydrating enough to ensure your skin isn’t flaky or peeling. The bonus for me is the fact that it’s unscented, since I have been switching to a more fragrance free lifestyle.
In summary, make sure you’re keeping your skin moist as the air starts to get cooler and drier. You will thank yourself when you aren’t itching dry patches all day!
