2024 was truly one for the books! This was the first full year I learned how to navigate work while being a new mom and the necessary organization and balance that brings. I’m so thankful to my clients and team who were super supportive of this transition and the scheduling changes that came with it. I’m beyond blessed to be able to stay home with my son and raise him while my husband is at work and to have a husband who’s such an active father and takes over when it’s mom’s time to work. Let’s take a look at some key moments from this past year.

We got to work on Halloween inspired weddings. I don’t know what was in the water this year, but we finally got to work on several weddings that had nods to Halloween and it might be the coolest thing ever!! At Shannon’s wedding everyone attending dressed up in costume (SO FUN), and at Ella’s wedding ON Halloween, she sported the coolest black gown (pictured above) and vampy makeup. I’m still patiently waiting for the day I get to work on a wedding where everyone wants zombie makeup, but hey, this is a fun step closer!

My son turned the big O-N-E. My first born, pride and joy, turned 1 year old in October! I don’t know where the time went because it feels like just yesterday I was announcing his arrival online. We had a super fun pumpkin themed birthday party and as you’ll see above, a photoshoot to celebrate this momentous occasion. If you ever needed a sign to invest in photography, consider this it! We did a professional photoshoot when he was a newborn, around 6 months old, and as he was turning 1, and it’s astonishing to see the evolution that takes place in the first year of life. My husband and I have officially completed our first year of juggling parenting and work – *WHEW!* What a time.

I was displaced from my studio for 3 months. Yeah, this is one of those not-so-fun parts of owning a business that you don’t see coming, but hey, it was a significant part of the year, so let’s talk about it. In the beginning of September, I was alerted by my landlord that a pipe of theirs had burst above my studio and caused water damage. In a crazy twist of fate, none of my actual items were damaged. But almost immediately, all my things were transferred to the yoga studio which my landlord also runs, so they were very accommodating so I didn’t have to completely shut down. I operated out of that unit for about 3 months of a yo-yo situation between my landlord, insurance and the demo guys. Drying took much longer than anticipated, but I’m grateful they wanted to make extra sure there would be no mold growth. Could you imagine how much worse that would be?! I was just happy my walls would be the same color and floors would be a similar design so I could get in and continue business as usual once it was all said and done. But talk about bad timing smack dab in the middle of the busiest time of the wedding season! *double whew*

I continued working with more people for makeup shopping and makeup lessons. This really warms my heart because a goal of mine the last couple years has been to expand this part of the business and I’m happy to see it seems to really be resonating with others! I love getting the chance to work on someone’s personal makeup goals and watch their knowledge expand in real time. It’s super satisfying and marries my love for makeup and past of teaching.

Take a look at our past reflection posts to see the beautiful progression of this business!
