2017 presented many personal and business obstacles and achievements for me, as I know it did for a bunch of people. I thought it would be a good idea to give some thought on what happened and how it has prepared me for 2018. Who knows? It may even be helpful for you, too!
I learned a new skill.
In November of 2017, I took a chance and invested in learning a new skill by taking an eyelash extension certification class. This has not only been the hardest skill I’ve ever had to learn, practice, and master, but it’s helping me figure out more of who I am, what I like and don’t like, and how this can be incorporated into the business I already have.

I trusted the wrong people.
I”m sure everyone can relate to this one. The reason I am putting it in this blog is because it has to do directly with my business. I invested in online courses and trusted the wrong people who promised to “mentor” me in the direction I was so diligently trying to go. Instead, I found out how shady these people were and how much more important money was to them than kindness and helping others. It’s safe to say, I learned a very hard lesson and I make sure I do diligent research before investing in something.

I took a chance.
In May of 2017, I took a chance and joined a networking group that requires membership fees, weekly meetings with a strict attendance policy, and a very organized system. I had visited a couple times in the beginning of the year to get a feel for it. I had some success with networking groups before that had no membership fees or strict rules, so the thought of incorporating these made sense but also frightened me. I ended up making back what I invested for a two year membership within the first three months, along with many lifelong colleagues and friends. I’m excited to see where 2018 goes with these people!
I increased my pricing.
You read that right. I increased my pricing. Not only did this make my services more valuable for myself in a saturated market, this also lead me to the right kind of clients. I’m talking about the clients that genuinely want my makeup services because my work and customer service speaks for itself. 2017 has lead me to meet many wonderful clients that I can’t wait to bring into 2018 with me!

I learned more about myself, my craft, and what makes me different.
One of the hardest things I have found throughout the years is trying to explain to people in a concise manner why I’m different than the other thousands of makeup artists out there and why they should choose me. I have been able to narrow down a few key factors as to why my skill and services stand out while also learning more about my specific style along the way. This makes me excited to see how much more I”ll grow in 2018 and how much more I”ll have to offer with every coming year.
