If you’re feeling anxious about how your wedding hair and makeup will feel and last throughout a long day, there are ways to utilize your hair and makeup trial to feel more confident in your look choices.

Plan your trial around another event: If scheduling allows, we love to coordinate your trial around things like your engagement photoshoot or bridal shower. This way, not only are you putting your appointment to good use by wearing it out to another event, but you will see how well it lasts through different elements and emotions.
Cue the tears: When I had my own hair and makeup trial before my wedding day, I made sure to watch videos that would illicit feelings that would make me cry, such as other people getting engaged or passionate wedding vows. This helps to show you just how the makeup will withstand your tears in real time so you can feel reassured before your wedding day.
Have your trial during the same season: Although we typically recommend coming in within 3-9 months of your wedding day, there is something to be said about having your trial one year before your wedding during the same season – you get to see how the hair and makeup look on a similar skin tone (especially if you tend to tan or burn) and how it withstands similar weather (hello, humidity!).
Try the look you’re questioning: If you always wear your hair up but you love inspiration photos with it down, give it a try. If you always wear a neutral lip color but want to try a bold lip, try it. The main thing to keep in mind here is to remember that you may not end up loving it – which is okay! That’s the point – you’re trying a look that if you hadn’t tried, you might have regretted never knowing how it would have looked on you. Trials help to show us what does or doesn’t work, therefore getting us closer to your dream look on your wedding day.
Go on a date: This is similar to the point above about utilizing your appointment to its full potential for an event like your engagement photoshoot or bridal shower, but if that isn’t possible, it’s always a good idea to have an extra date night! It’s the perfect opportunity for photo ops and feedback from your fiance since they know what you usually look like and love to wear.
As always, remember to come into your hair and makeup trial prepared (clean face, clean, prepped hair), with an open mind that changes may have to be made during and/or after your trial, and inspiration pictures of real people with a similar skin tone and hair color. Doing so will help you have a more successful trial experience!
